Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions
Brentford have been the great entertainers at the Gtech Community Stadium this month and they can play their part in another humdinger against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.
The Bees were 5-3 winners over Wolves on their own patch at the start of October and followed that with a 4-3 win over Ipswich in their latest home game on Saturday.
Those wins have kept Thomas Frank's side in mid-table in the Premier League standings, but they have already shown they can fluster any opponent on their day.
Bryan Mbeumo, in particular, has been in red-hot form but he will probably be rested along with a raft of first-team players for this clash with the Owls.
A long run in the EFL Cup would be welcomed by a club in Brentford's position, but Frank will not want to overstretch his key players ahead of a busy couple of months.
But even with personnel rotated, the Bees' attacking principles will remain and the goals could flow against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls showed fighting spirit of their own last Friday, recovering from a goal down at half-time to beat Portsmouth 2-1 with Michael Smith striking a wonder goal.
Josh Windass also notched and Sheffield Wednesday have the quality in attack to potentially breach Brentford, having scored a total of eight goals in their three previous EFL Cup triumphs over Hull, Grimsby and Blackpool.
There is every chance that Wednesday could net against a Bees side without a clean sheet in eight matches, but the better betting angle could be backing a home win and over 2.5 goals.
That approach allows for both a potential hammering from the higher-ranked side and a back-and-forth contest in west London.
Key stat
Seven of Brentford's last eight matches have featured over 2.5 goals.
