Match preview

Derby County are in dire straits off the pitch with points deductions leaving them in a precarious position in the Championship but on it they have shown signs of promise heading into their home clash with QPR.

The Rams have been deducted 21 points this term, leaving them rooted to the foot of England's second tier.

But Wayne Rooney has galvanised his group and they have taken four points from their last two matches against highflying promotion contenders Bournemouth, who they beat 3-2, and Fulham, who they held to a 0-0 draw.

They would be outside of the relegation places if it were not for their points deduction and they could prove to be tough opponents for visitors QPR.

But Rangers are among the in-form sides in the division, winning three of their last four fixtures without conceding.

And the west London side are well in the mix for a playoff berth this term so should also not be ruled out of winning this contest.

Punters should therefore consider swerving the match result market entirely and instead opt for goals at Pride Park with both teams to score the best bet.

When speaking about his next opponents, QPR boss Mark Warburton said: "This is our toughest game of the season so far.

"The points deduction has happened and it's out of their control but they can play with real freedom and express themselves now."

And that freedom has seen Derby find the net in six of their last seven matches in the Championship with resolute Fulham the only side to shut them out.

QPR, meanwhile, rank among the most dangerous attacking sides in the division with tricky midfielder Ilias Chair having bagged six Championship goals alone.

They have, in fact, scored in all 19 of their league games this term with the 0-0 draw against Sunderland in the EFL Cup the only match in which they have failed to find the net.

Both of these teams have plenty to play for and sitting back will suit neither side so this could be an entertaining fixture with both teams set to get on the scoresheet in Derbyshire.

Key stat

Both teams have scored in six of Derby's last seven assignments.
