Uruguay were runners-up in Group A after winning their last two matches 2-0 against Bolivia and 1-0 against Paraguay and they can maintain their recent surge with a quarter-final success over Colombia in Brasilia.

Solid defence was the key to Uruguay's group stage campaign, with just two goals conceded in four games, and it should lay the foundation for success against Colombia, who advanced despite back-to-back 2-1 defeats to Peru and Brazil.

Colombia may struggle to add to their tournament tally of three goals and are unlikely to keep a clean sheet against the Uruguayans, who are set to be spearheaded by classy veterans Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

Group A winners Argentina approach the Copa America knockout stages on a three-match winning sequence and should register a comfortable victory and a shutout against quarter-final opponents Ecuador in Goiania.

With the lack of crowds it has been hard for the top teams and the top players to rouse themselves to their best efforts and there was an initial lethargy about Argentina, who opened up their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Chile.

However, Lionel Scaloni's side have built on that modest beginning and hit their stride in the last group match by winning 4-1 against basement boys Bolivia.

Lionel Messi netted twice against the Bolivians, taking his tournament tally to three, and his return to prominence looks a worry for Ecuador, who were the only team to reach the last eight without winning a game.
