Wednesday's Champions League predictions

Bologna vs Shakhtar Donetsk

With away contests against Aston Villa and Liverpool to come in October, Champions League debutants Bologna will be out to make a strong start against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

But the Serie A club have stumbled out of the blocks under new boss Vincenzo Italiano and have been hit hard by the departure of Joshua Zirkzee and Riccardo Calafiori, while influential midfielder Lewis Ferguson remains sidelined.

Three of their four league games have finished as draws this term and that could be the best bet when they host Shakhtar, who have won just two of their last five competitive away games.

Sparta Prague vs Salzburg

Sparta Prague are preparing for their first appearance in the Champions League's main competition since 2005-06 and they should make life tough for Salzburg.

Home form will be crucial for Sparta in this competition and their Epet Arena is able to generate a fierce atmosphere.

And they are worth backing with the draw no bet against Salzburg, who finished bottom of their Champions League group last season and lost 3-2 to Rapid Vienna last time out.

PSG vs Girona

No Kylian Mbappe? No problem.

PSG have had no shortage of attacking firepower this season following the summer departure of their talisman and they have racked up 16 goals in just four Ligue 1 fixtures this term.

But both teams have scored in three of their last four fixtures and going for goals at both ends looks the best bet when they take on Girona, who have scored seven times in their last three fixtures.

Club Brugge vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have made a solid start to life under Nuri Sahin but they dropped points in their one road game against Werder Bremen and could be denied victory at Club Brugge.

The hosts lead the way in the Belgian Pro League with four wins from seven games and were unbeaten at the Jan Breydal Stadium in Europe last term, progressing to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.
