Wednesday's Champions League predictions

Salzburg vs Brest

Brest picked up a 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in their first Champions League game but they face a tougher challenge away to Salzburg.

Pep Lijnders has not had the easiest time since arriving from Liverpool but the Austrians are odds-on to win.

Stuttgart vs Sparta Prague

Stuttgart have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in Europe this season. Both teams have scored in all but one of their eight games in all competitions and all of those eight matches have gone over 2.5 goals.

They host a Sparta Prague side who beat Salzburg 3-0 two weeks ago but have a terrible away record in this competition, having lost their last seven road games.

Stuttgart’s defence will certainly give the visitors a chance and they are fancied to play their part in another high-scoring clash so take both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.

Barcelona vs Young Boys

A tenth-minute red card for Eric Garcia was the last thing that Barcelona needed in their Champions League opener against Monaco and they went down 2-1.

Despite their now substantial absentee list and the fact that they lost 4-2 to Osasuna at the weekend, Barca can record a comfortable success against Young Boys.

The Swiss team lost 3-0 at home to Aston Villa in their opener and they are second-bottom of their domestic competition after winning just one of their first eight league games.

Barca have recorded 7-0, 5-1 and 4-1 wins already this term and they can overcome a one-goal deficit on the handicap.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Milan

Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen host Milan in one of the blockbuster clashes of the night’s action.

Leverkusen powered past Feyenoord in their first European outing, winning 4-0, and they held title rivals Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Their high-octane style of play can often lead to high-scoring affairs and this looks likely to follow suit.

Four of Milan’s last seven games have also gone over 3.5 goals and this could be no different.

Inter vs Red Star

Inter held Manchester City to a goalless draw in their first game but disappointed in the Milan derby a few days later.

Nevertheless, they should be too good for a Red Star side who were beaten by Benfica in their first group game.

PSV vs Sporting

Viktor Gyokeres has come a long way since he was an unwanted youngster at Brighton and he is now one of the most sought-after strikers in world football.

The Swede has picked up where he left off last season, scoring ten times in seven league games and opening his Champions League account against Lille a fortnight ago.

The former Coventry man is in such good form that he is impossible to ignore and he can find a way past a PSV defence that conceded three goals to Juventus on the opening matchday.
