Pep Guardiola's dismal away record in the Champions League
Manchester City boss has struggled on the road in Europe
Pep Guardiola is renowned as one of modern football's tactical pioneers but the Man City and former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager's record in big away contests in Europe leaves plenty to be desired.
Of the 26 away knockout fixtures he has taken charge of in the Champions League, Guardiola's sides have won only six, a dismal figure for a man considered by some as the best in the business.
His best ratio of wins in these types of games has come at City, who have won two of their five away knockout contests under Guardiola's stewardship, although even the latest success - a 3-2 win at Schalke - was not the most convincing.
This record could well be a byproduct of Guardiola's possession-based system which perhaps comes unstuck away to Europe's big boys, where a counter-attacking approach would arguably be more effective.
Bookmakers expect City to go deep in this year's competition but Guardiola's record in the latter stages is even more concerning - of his seven semi-final away games in the Champions League, he has managed only one win.
If there were a good time to buck this unwanted trend, now would be it.
