Wednesday's Champions League predictions

Atletico Madrid vs Slovan Bratislava

There should be ample opportunity for goals for Atletico Madrid when they host Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday and Julian Alvarez is worth a bet to draw first blood.

Alvarez has settled into life at Atletico nicely, scoring five times in La Liga and three times in the Champions League this term, and he should be able to breach a Slovan Bratislava rearguard which has leaked 18 goals in the competition.

Lille vs Sturm Graz

Lille have already taken down Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bologna in this season's Champions League, so they should not be overly fazed by struggling Austrians Sturm Graz.

Milan vs Red Star Belgrade

After back-to-back away wins against Real Madrid and Slovan Bratislava, Milan resume their Champions League campaign at San Siro on Wednesday and they are likely to be too strong for visitors Red Star Belgrade.

Benfica vs Bologna

Benfica have spent the last week or so gaining ground on Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga title race but they are also in a good spot in the Champions League with three wins from their opening five matches.

Bologna have underwhelmed in their debut Champions League campaign with four defeats from five matches and just one goal scored, so back the Portuguese giants to edge a low-scoring contest.

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona

Enjoying their best start to a Champions League campaign since 2016-17, Borussia Dortmund can avoid defeat against Barcelona in this week's standout fixture.

Dortmund are level on 12 points with Barca in the Champions League standings and they are a dangerous side going forwards with young Englishman Jamie Gittens in particular flourishing on the flank.

Barcelona have wobbled recently, dropping points against Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo, Las Palmas and Real Betis since the start of November and they could be denied victory at Signal Iduna Park.

Feyenoord vs Sparta Prague

Playoff hopefuls Feyenoord are averaging two goals per game in this season's Champions League and they are fancied to win their next contest against Sparta Prague, who were hammered 6-0 by Atletico Madrid on matchday five.

Stuttgart vs Young Boys

Young Boys went into this week's batch of Champions League fixtures rock-bottom of the standings as one of only three teams to lose all five of their opening games.

They take on Stuttgart, who have also struggled and were stunned 5-1 by Red Star Belgrade last month.
