Champions League Golden Boot predictions

Erling Haaland has already had Premier League defences running scared, scoring nine goals in four league games, and the Manchester City superstar is a worthy favourite to be the top marksman in this season's Champions League.

Few players have ever made goalscoring look as easy as Haaland, who is well on his way to claiming a third successive Premier League Golden Boot despite it being only mid-September.

The Norwegian faces more intense competition in the Champions League, where he will rub shoulders with fellow stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, but he looks the man to beat as the spearhead of a City team who are rightly one of the favourites to be crowned European champions.

Haaland arrived at the Etihad as a 22-year-old with some rough edges and bagged 52 goals in his first season in Manchester, including a chart-topping 12-goal Champions League haul which helped City finally get their hands on the trophy they prized above all else.

His numbers dipped slightly during an injury-interrupted 2023-24 campaign, but Haaland seems to be finding new levels of excellence this season and can top the continental charts once again.

Kylian Mbappe shared top-scorer honours with Harry Kane in last season's Champions League and will be striving to impress in his first season at Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old Frenchman is approaching his prime and is off to a solid start at Real with three goals in five La Liga appearances.

However, having been the undisputed star of the show at Paris St-Germain, Mbappe is now part of a different dynamic at Real and will have to share goalscoring duties with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, who will all have their supporters at double-figure odds.

Kane is the focal point for Bayern Munich and has got off to a strong start this term with four goals in three league matches, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 rout of Holstein Kiel at the weekend.

The England captain gets a respectful 6-1 quote but his Bundesliga rival Lois Openda may represent better value at 50-1.

Openda enjoyed a fantastic first season with Leipzig, scoring 24 league goals and four in the Champions League, and he soon caught the eye this season with a double in his club's superb 3-2 win at German champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The Belgian has power, pace as well an appetite for goals and he could improve his output further this season.
