Aston Villa vs Juventus predictions

A stunning 1-0 win over Bayern Munich must feel like an age ago for Aston Villa, whose winless streak stands at six games following Saturday's frustrating 2-2 home draw with Crystal Palace.

That miserable run includes four losses, including a 4-1 thrashing at Tottenham and a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Club Brugge in their last Champions League outing.

That defeat in Belgium brought an end to their perfect start in the Champions League and while Unai Emery will be hoping to return to winning ways in Europe, his side face a potentially tough test against Juventus.

The Old Lady underwent plenty of change throughout the summer, bringing in plenty of new players and replacing long-term manager Massimo Allegri with Thiago Motta.

Juve have made a mixed start to life under Motta. While they have lost just one of 17 matches this term, they have also won only eight.

It is understandable that the winning touch has yet to arrive for Motta as his success with Bologna was far from an overnight project. But it is impressive that Juventus have lost only once under their new boss – that sole defeat coming by a single goal to Stuttgart, with the killer blow arriving only after Danilo had been sent off.

There is some temptation in backing the away win given Villa's poor form, but the absence of strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik has left Juve looking a little light up front.

However, the Old Lady's ability to grind out results should still hold them in good stead at Villa Park and with just two points between the pair in the league-phase standings, the draw, which has landed in four of Juventus's last six games and three of the Villans' last five at home, looks a big runner.

Backing the draw could provide a route to profit but it may be worth considering splitting stakes across two correct-score bets instead, with the goals unlikely to flow in Birmingham.

Seven of Juventus's last nine matches have yielded fewer than three goals, including each of their last four, and they are unlikely to net many against Villa without Vlahovic, who has scored three of his side's seven Champions League strikes this term.

Villa, meanwhile, have been uncharacteristically misfiring of late, scoring only five goals in their six-game winless run.

Each of the Villans' last three European games has ended with no more than two goals and with Juve's two most recent Champions League clashes having also yielded under 2.5 strikes, a low-scoring affair should be expected on Wednesday.

With a draw looking a big runner and goals likely to come at a premium, split-stake bets on 0-0 and 1-1 make the most appeal from a punting perspective.

Key stat

Juventus have lost just one of their 17 matches this season.

Aston Villa vs Juventus team news

Aston Villa
Jacob Ramsey is a definite absentee while the game is also likely to have come too soon for Boubacar Kamara. Amadou Onana and Ezri Konsa will be assessed after missing Saturday's draw with Crystal Palace.

Juventus
ACL victims Bremer and Juan Cabal are out alongside attacking trio Arkadiusz Milik, Nico Gonzalez and Dusan Vlahovic. Former Villa midfield general Douglas Luiz and his fellow midfielder Weston McKennie are doubts.

Probable teams

Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Carlos, Torres, Digne; Barkley, Tielemans; Bailey, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins
Subs: Mings, Nedeljkovic, Maatsen, Bogarde, Buendia, Philogene, Duran

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Thuram; Conceicao, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Weah

Aston Villa vs Juventus bet builder predictions

Under 2.5 goals
Seven of Juventus's last nine matches have yielded fewer than three goals, while Villa have netted only five times in their six-game winless run.

Youri Tielemans over 0.5 shots
The Villa midfielder has registered five shots in four Champions League matches – only failing to notch one against Bayern Munich – and could let fly from the edge of the box if Juventus sit deep.

Diego Carlos to be booked
Due to injuries to their regular strikers, Timothy Weah is set to get the nod up front for Juventus and his pace could cause plenty of problems for Diego Carlos, who has been booked in three of his last four starts.
