El Salvador can make it into last eight
Concacaf Gold Cup Group C
From 11pm Sunday
El Salvador have reached the quarter-finals at two of the last three Concacaf Gold Cups and can advance to last eight once again by beating Jamaica in San Antonio.
Jamaica were Concacaf Gold Cup runners-up in 2015 and are well placed in Group C after beating Curacao (2-0) and drawing with Mexico (0-0).
However, they lost the shot count in both matches - 12 to 19 against Curacao and six to 13 against Mexico.
The Reggae Boyz had a meagre 35 per cent share of possession against Mexico and they may not be fully recovered after working so hard to get the result.
El Salvador had an easier time in their second match, coasting to a dominant 2-0 victory over Curacao. They lost 1-0 to Jamaica in a tight group stage match at the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup but have improved over the last two years.
Attacking midfielder Rodolfo Zelaya was their shining star in the win over Curacao and earned warm praise from head coach Eduardo Lara, who said the 29-year-old could play in any league in the world.
Zelaya, scorer of 21 goals in 45 internationals, is the main Salvadoran threat and could make the difference.
Mexico are hanging on to top spot despite their failure to defeat Jamaica but they should round off the group stage with an easy win over Curacao.
Despite selecting a reserve squad, Mexico are major contenders for the trophy and are just 1-6 to hand a third successive defeat to section's basement boys.
