World Series of Darts Finals predictions

The autumn majors feast starts this weekend in Amsterdam, where Michael Smith can flourish in a lop-sided draw to land the honours at the World Series of Darts Finals.

Thirty-two players go to post at the AFAS Live with the big three in the betting – Lukes Littler and Humphries and Michael van Gerwen – all housed in the top half.

And two of them have brutal openers, with The Nuke sure to be tested by Ross Smith and Van Gerwen facing off against Jonny Clayton.

It's going to be a top-half bloodbath while Bully Boy can enjoy a relatively incident-free trip through to the bottom half and make the final as a minimum.

Smith hasn't had the best of years by his recent dizzying standards, but he has still trousered a Players Championship win and teamed up with Humphries to win the World Cup.

The number six seed should have little difficulty brushing aside Jose de Sousa in his opener and then either Wessel Nijman or Andrew Gilding in round two, and from the quarter-finals onwards the silky Smith is in his element.

There are some eyecatching first-round fixtures, none more intriguing than Van Gerwen versus Clayton.

The Green Machine, winner of five of the previous nine World Series Finals, will have the crowd right behind him, but he is far more flaky then he ever was and the Welshman, showing real signs of recovery in his own game, looks a big price.

Littler is probably playing too well to lose to Ross Smith, although it could still be close if the outsider can find his range on the outer ring. But the other outsider worth an interest is Daryl Gurney against Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Again, the locals will be as partisan as possible but Superchin beat Dutchman Van Duijvenbode 6-3 when they last met at the Baltic Sea Open in May and has the game to trouble anyone if he's in the mood.

Gian van Veen beat compatriot Danny Noppert when they last met on a Dutch stage – a 6-3 triumph at January's Dutch Masters – and can repeat the feat here.
