PDC World Darts Championship Day Ten predictions
This year’s PDC World Darts Championship has been littered with shocks, with a record-breaking 14 seeds departing at the second -round stage.
The first day of third-round action sees defending champion Luke Humphries, as well as former winners Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright, looking to avoid any more banana skins.
Damon Heta vs Luke Woodhouse
Damon Heta came through a tough battle against Connor Scutt in the second round and faces another big challenge as he takes on Luke Woodhouse, who got the better of Grand Prix winner Mike De Decker last time out.
Both men are big scorers and this could be an entertaining curtain-raiser.
Jonny Clayton vs Daryl Gurney
Jonny Clayton and Daryl Gurney both progressed from the second round in dramatic fashion, winning 3-2, and a similarly close clash looks likely in the most competitively priced game of the day.
Their last four meetings on the floor have all been decided by two legs or fewer and this pair can push each other all the way. Take over 5.5 sets in what should be a gruelling back-and-forth battle.
Stephen Bunting vs Madars Razma
Stephen Bunting has won all four of his previous meetings with Madars Razma and should make it five on the spin.
Latvian Razma has put in a pair of solid if unremarkable performances against Christian Kist and Dirk van Duijvenbode but the Bullet is a different proposition and should dominate this one.
Razma predominantly plays on the 19 segment so Bunting has an advantage in the 180-hitting department. Take him to get the win, hit the most maximums and record the highest checkout.
Gerwyn Price vs Joe Cullen
A disgruntled Joe Cullen walked out of his post-match interview following his win over Wessel Nijman last time out and it will be interesting to see what reception he gets when he faces Gerwyn Price, Alexandra Palace’s usual pantomime villain.
Price is the right favourite but if Cullen reproduces his performance against Nijman, this could be a cracker.
Jermaine Wattimena vs Peter Wright
Jermaine Wattimena has already dumped James Wade out of this tournament and is a short price to see off another veteran as he takes on Peter Wright, who averaged ten points lower than the Dutchman in the last round.
Luke Humphries vs Nick Kenny
Despite all the shocks at this year’s tournament, world number one Luke Humphries looks to have a solid chance of whitewashing Nick Kenny in the night’s final game.
Cool Hand won all nine legs against Thibault Tricole and Kenny is one of the lowest ranked players left in the tournament.
The Welshman was able to take advantage of an under-par Raymond van Barneveld in round two and has not averaged above 87 in either of his wins.
That will not cut it against Humphries, who should be able to win 4-0.
