PDC World Darts Championship Day Seven predictions

And so the waiting is finally over.

Nearly 12 months after he was last seen leaving Alexandra Palace, Luke Littler is back to grace the stage once again in the most eagerly-awaited, hyped-up return to the Paddy Power World Darts Championship in the tournament's history.

Romantics, the red-top media and pretty much all darts fans would have hoped the 17-year-old superstar was playing Fallon Sherrock in round two tonight.

But, courtesy of the Queen of the Palace's failure to better Ryan Meikle on Tuesday night, Littler will be going toe to toe with the Barber. And no one is expecting a close shave.

Littler is 1-16 to win, 4-7 for a 3-0 whitewash and 4-6 to land the win, most 180s and high checkout treble. Given that left-hander Meikle may struggle to win more than a few legs, that may not be the worst bet.

A better bet, however, is arguably Ryan Joyce to take care of Danny Noppert in another second-round contest.

Joyce has not got past round two on each of his five previous visits to the Palace but he's had a perfectly acceptable year, where the highlights include a run to the Grand Prix semis and last eight of the Players Championship.

He played nicely to beat tricky opponent Darius Labanauskas in a tough opener and will have no fears of Noppert, a player he boasts a 5-1 head-to-head record against. The Geordie beat Noppert when they last met in October at a Pro Tour floor event, 6-4.

Noppie was seeded number seven last year – and was battered 3-0 by Scott Williams in his one and only game – and is seeded 13th this time so the curve is going the wrong way.

He's a top pro with a major win to his name – the 2022 UK Open – but is far from unbeatable and this looks anybody's game.

The same can be said of Damon Heta versus Conor Scutt.

It's hard to imagine Scutt can reproduce the near-102 average he piled on against Ben Robb in his opener which was played like an exhibition match so in control was the Englishman.

Heta is such a class act but one of that breed of players cursed with a reputation as a floor star rather than a stage one. There's no doubting Scutt has the game – at a decent price – to cause the most minor of upsets.
