Paddy Power World Darts Championship Day Eight predictions

Two-time world champion Gary Anderson belatedly begins his bid for a third Alexandra Palace crown on day eight of the Paddy Power World Championship.

Anderson, third-favourite behind Lukes Littler and Humphries in most ante-post books, takes on Jeffrey de Graaf on Sunday evening, but there are a trio of wagers worthy of attention before the Flying Scotsman toes the oche.

Ryan Searle and Matt Campbell get the first of two sessions at the Palace under way at 12.45pm and Heavy Metal should make light work of Canada's Campbell.

Campbell beat Lourence Ilagan and James Wade at last year's worlds and edged Mensur Suljovic in the first round this time around but his record at the Palace remains poor in general and his game has fallen away this term.

Campbell won only one match in the final five Players Championship events and the 35-year-old is ranked only 98th on the 2024 Pro Tour averages.

In stark contrast, Searle is 20th on the PDC order of merit and averaged 96.68 on the Pro Tour this term. Heavy Metal will be extremely tough to rock if in that sort of mood.

Reliability isn't Searle's strong suit but he did make five Pro Tour finals this season and there is enough juice in his price giving up a 1.5-set start – he would need to win 3-0 or 3-1 for the bet to oblige – to take chance on the Somerset arrowsmith on the handicap.

Joe Cullen is seeded 23rd at Alexandra Palace this year, but Wessel Nijman is nonetheless a clear favourite for their second-round tie.

The Dutchman was pushed all the way to a deciding leg by Cameron Carolissen in round one on Friday, but the experience of playing on the big stage should settle any nerves the 24-year-old had and an average of 94.83 indicates he performed perfectly well in any case.

Nijman made his breakthrough at Players Championship 24, where he beat Stephen Bunting in the final, and his 97.25 three-dart average ranks fourth on the Pro Tour this year.

The Dutchman posted averages of 105.39, 106.51 and 111.10 in three matches at the Grand Slam a month ago and many pundits believe he could go far at the Palace this year.

Cullen, meanwhile, has been woeful for much of the campaign and the Rockstar looks likely to be silenced by Nijman.

Callan Rydz lived up to his nickname and ran riot against Romeo Grbavac in his World Championship opener, posting a straight-sets victory, and he may not be finished just yet.

The Riot beat Yuki Yamada, Brendan Dolan, Nathan Aspinall and Alan Soutar en route to the last eight at the 2022 tournament and he seems to come alive at Ally Pally.

Martin Schindler is a solid performer but quotes of 13-10 about rampant Rydz, who averaged 107.06 when beating Grbavac, are difficult to ignore.
