PDC World Darts Championship Day 12 predictions

Defending PDC world champion Luke Humphries is back in action at Alexandra Palace and Cool Hand Luke looks ready to dominate his last-16 duel with Peter Wright.

The Newbury arrowsmith rattled in a 98.59 average in a 4-0 hammering of Nick Kenny in round three, his second shut-out defeat after he beat Thibault Tricole in his opening Ally Pally contest.

Of course, a clash with a two-time world champion represents a step up in class from Humphries' opening two World Championship opponents, but the chances of a peak performance from Wright look pretty slim.

Snakebite did average 96.19 in his last-32 victory over Jermaine Wattimena and the Scot was 45 per cent on his finishing doubles. However, Wright was down at 89.63 in a fortunate 3-1 second-round success against Wesley Plaisier, and on the evidence of the last 12 months, the latter of those performances levels has to be a more likely outcome here.

Snakebite was beaten in the first round of this season's World Matchplay, European Championship, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals and the 54-year-old failed to win a single match at the Grand Slam of Darts.

Wright has been put in at 9-2 for the fourth-round tie against Humphries, but the Scot would surely have been closer to an 11-2 or 6-1 chance had it not been for the success over Wattimena.

That victory is in stark contrast to what the two-time world champion has achieved this season and in a best-of-seven contest, Humphries looks a worthwhile bet to cover a 2.5-set start and book his spot in the quarter-finals.

Callan Rydz is a dangerous opponent when finding his stride and the Riot can go on the rampage against Dimitri van Den Bergh.

The Bedlington arrowsmith crushed Romeo Grbavac with a 107 average in round one and the 26-year-old followed that up with another destructive 3-0 victory over the excellent Martin Schindler.

Rydz's numbers dropped in the shutout success over the Wall but that can be attributed to a checkout success rate of only 23 per cent and not a drop in the Riot's scoring abilities.

Van den Bergh produces his peak performances on the big stage but it’s a major task to keep pulling off draining efforts with no floor form to fall back on and this may be where the Dreammaker's World Championship turns into a nightmare.
