Grand Slam of Darts day eight predictions

All eyes will be fixed firmly on Luke Littler in the second set of Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals, with the teenage prodigy odds-on to go all the way and scoop yet another title during his meteoric rise.

The 17-year-old has had a shaky season in televised majors but he has been at his breathtaking best at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton this week.

Littler had to dig deep in his last-16 victory over World Grand Prix champion Mike de Decker but showed his class by taking six of the final seven legs, posting a 103.48 average in a nail-biting 10-9 win.

The Nuke won all three group games in Wolverhampton, recording averages of 112.16, 106.98 and 102.05, suggesting that his last-eight opponent Jermaine Wattimena may lack the scoring power to stay with him.

The rejuvenated Dutchman is also four from four this week but his deciding-leg victory over Dimitri van den Bergh in the last 16 was complemented by an average of only 91.19 as he benefited from some slack finishing from the Belgian.

Wattimena made the final of the European Championship at the end of October but he wilted under pressure, averaging only 84.64 in an 11-3 defeat, and Littler should stamp his authority over 31 legs.

The other quarter-final is a far more competitive betting heat and it will be impressive if Gian van Veen can keep up his lofty averages over this extended format against two-time world champion Gary Anderson.

Van Veen has made serene progress to the last eight and has posted an average in excess of 106 in three of his four matches, the latest of which saw him bulldoze his way past Ryan Joyce in a 10-2 rout.

But Anderson has been back to somewhere near his very best this season and has the ability to go toe-to-toe with the Dutchman’s power scoring, something that will create pressure.

The Flying Scotsman is another to have been foot-perfect at this year's Grand Slam, beating Michael van Gerwen and Stephen Bunting en route to the quarters, and it is possible that the layers may be giving his 22-year-old opponent a tad too much respect.
