Finishing power sets Lisa Ashton apart from women's field
Top tips for the women's crown
Women's tournament preview
Starts Channel 4, 1pm Saturday
Three-time winner Lisa Ashton stands out as the class act in the women’s event.
The Lancashire Rose is seeded only fourth, but she spent the first half of the year giving it a go with the men on the PDC Challenge Tour where the highlight was reaching a quarter-final.
A merciless scorer and consistent finisher, which is what truly stands her apart, Ashton looks all over the winner.
The bottom half of the 16-woman draw looks tasty with the continually improving Aileen de Graaf and Lorraine Winstanley hoping to outgun former champions Anastasia Dobromyslova and Trina Gulliver.
The Russian ace became a mum earlier in the year and hasn’t shone since while De Graaf goes to the Lakeside as the newly-crowned Finder Master.
But Winstanley looks like her time is coming. She landed eight titles in 2017 including the World Masters and is a better player now than she was 12 months ago.
