European Championship predictions

Ross Smith's victory in the European Championship last season shows anything is possible in the finale of the 2023 European Tour campaign, so it may be best to look at a pair of big-money prospects in Dortmund.

The top 32 from the season's 13 Euro Tour events have made it to the showpiece in Germany, which means everyone in the field has been in decent form.

Two of those are Stephen Bunting and Josh Rock, who look decent prices at 66-1 and 28-1 respectively to lift the trophy.

Bunting, a finalist at the German Darts Open last month, signed off the qualifying campaign with a string of decent performances at the German Darts Championship, putting up some big numbers on his way to the quarter-finals.

The former Lakeside world champion has been playing well for months and there is no doubt he has the talent to have another good week, and he can hardly complain about the draw.

Luke Humphries believes victory in the Grand Prix will open the major floodgates and that may well be the case, but fancy prices about Cool Hand no longer exist.

Humphries is now shorter than the likes of Peter Wright and Michael Smith and that is easy to understand given how many European Tour qualifiers he has won over the last couple of campaigns.

But Rock's turn is coming soon. A four-time Players Championship finalist in 2023, the most recent of those coming earlier this month, and a finalist in Austria in April suggests the World Youth champion will be a senior major winner soon enough.
