BoyleSports World Grand Prix day four predictions

Big-hitters Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Damon Heta were all dumped out of the first-round of the BoyleSports World Grand Prix and there’s an open feel to the Leicester event.

Second-round matches move to a more manageable best-of-five-set format and there are four interesting contests on Thursday.

Gary Anderson vs Mike de Decker

Gary Anderson was taken to a final leg in a 2-1 first-round victory over Michael Smith, but the Pro Tour’s standout performer should have more time to settle in against Mike de Decker.

The Flying Scotsman looks a major title contender in Leicester, but the match prices look about right.

De Decker hit three maximums, finishes of 150 and 116 in an opening-round success over the top-level Heta and the Belgian is a seriously talented performer.

Gerwyn Price vs James Wade

Gerwyn Price has finished as winner, runner-up, semi-finalist and runner-up in his previous four World Grand Prix appearances, but the Iceman won’t make it out of a second-round tie with James Wade if he doesn’t show big improvement from his victory over Danny Noppert.

The Markham man averaged only 83.33, and was practically handed victory by the Dutchman, who spurned some glorious opportunities to put that game beyond Price.

However, Price's Pro Tour numbers are vastly superior to Wade’s, the Welshman has won two World Series events this season and there is enough in the price to take chance on the Iceman bringing the heat on Thursday.

Daryl Gurney vs Joe Cullen

Joe Cullen turned around some indifferent form to beat Chris Dobey on Tuesday, but Hollywood rather threw away that game and the Rockstar may face more of a battle against Daryl Gurney.

The Northern Irishman impressed when winning all six legs of his first-round game against Michael van Gerwen and Superchin has made three semi-finals and a final on the Pro Tour this term.

Dave Chisnall vs Dimitri van den Bergh

Dimitri Van den Bergh once again put his disappointing floor form behind him to star on the big stage, winning a high-class encounter against Luke Woodhouse, and the Dreammaker moves on to face Dave Chisnall in the final World Grand Prix contest of the night.
