Semi-finals preview

PDC world darts champion Michael Van Gerwen has never successfully defended the Boylesports World Grand Prix title despite winning it four times since 2012. But he can take a step closer to retaining the crown he won in Dublin last year by winning his semi-final against Chris 'Hollywood' Dobey, who is into the last four of a televised event for the first time.

MVG was forced to produce his A-game by Mervyn King in the quarter-finals, with both men chucking 170 maximum checkouts, and it will need a monumental effort for 9-2 underdog Dobey to derail him.

Dobey has been in impressive form, eliminating his mentor Gary Anderson in the second round before waving good night to Ian White in a topsy-turvy quarter-final.

But he could be in for some hard cheese against Dutchman Van Gerwen, who is chasing the 11th title of another prolific season and is capable of going through the gears.

Take MVG to cover a -2.5 set handicap in this best-of-seven sets contest.

Glen Durrant takes on Dave Chisnall in Friday's first semi-final, and it's a pick 'em affair with several betting firms putting both men up at 10-11 to come out on top.

Three-time BDO champion Durrant knocked Van Gerwen out of the Betfred World Matchplay in Blackpool in July and could set up a rematch in this weekend's Dublin final.

Durrant will be full of confidence after beating Rob Cross in second round and Jermaine Wattimena in the quarters, while Chizzy followed up a shutout of Stephen Bunting with a 3-1 win over Nathan Aspinall.

Both men will have their moments but Durrant, on his Dublin debut, is fancied to reach the final.
