Jonas Vingegaard will roll into Paris to become the winner of the 109th Tour de France on Sunday after finishing second on Saturday's time trial, which was won by the Dane's teammate Wout van Aert.

Van Aert will also be on the podium on the Champs-Elysees to collect the green jersey having bossed the points classification from start to finish.

Victory on stage 20 was his third of this year's Tour and he will be a hot favourite to add another win to his tally in Paris, mirroring his feat of last year when he won the penultimate time-trial before outsprinting his rivals on the Champs-Elysees the following day.

Akin to the final round of the Masters, the scenic nature of the traditional Tour finale offers both tranquil viewing and thrilling action.

The peloton will snake its way through the suburbs of Paris before finishing three weeks of racing with eight frantic laps on the cobbles of the Champs-Elysees.

Most of the riders will be just content with rolling over the finish line given their exertions but this is the stage all sprinters want to win so there is some serious business at hand, too.

Ten years ago Tour winner Bradley Wiggins led out then world champion Mark Cavendish in the yellow jersey on Paris' iconic boulevard and it would be fitting if this year's winner Vingegaard did the same for Van Aert given how much work he has done for the Dane.
