T20 Blast Finals Day predictions

A blockbuster day of cricket is in store as Surrey, Somerset, Sussex and Gloucestershire head to Edgbaston for T20 Blast Finals Day.

The Birmingham venue will play host to two semi-finals earlier in the day before the winners battle it out for the trophy in the evening and Surrey are solid favourites at 23-10.

They take on defending champions Somerset in the first semi-final of the day and will be seeking revenge, having lost to the same opponents at this stage of the competition last year.

But Surrey go into T20 Blast Finals Day in a strong position and they performed the best out of the four semi-finalists in the regular season, winning nine of their 14 matches to top the South Group.

It can often be a struggle to translate regular-season form into the knockout stage but Surrey have already demonstrated their class with a five-wicket win over Durham in the quarter-finals.

They have been hit hard by player absences due to England's T20 series with Australia and will be without the likes of Will Jacks, Sam Curran and Reece Topley.

But Surrey have extraordinary depth and Dan Lawrence, Laurie Evans, Dom Sibley and Jamie Smith should still see them over the line.

Somerset, meanwhile, will likely be without a star player of their own with Tom Banton set to miss out after injuring himself playing football before the team's County Championship fixture earlier in the week.

If Surrey edge past the defending champions in the stronger semi-final, they should go on to lift the trophy and are a good outright pick.

Laurie Evans also looks a good bet to score 22 runs or more in the semi, having racked up 257 runs in this year's competition.

The other semi-final between Sussex and Gloucestershire is likely to be more one-sided.

Sussex blew Lancashire apart in the quarter-finals, bowling their opponents out for just 114 runs, and they should ease past a Gloucestershire unit who have been overreliant on their bowlers.

Sussex won both meetings with their semi-final opponents during the regular season - in which Gloucestershire lost half of their matches (seven defeats in 14 games) – and the odds-on favourites should justify their status.
