Sussex vs Lancashire prediction

Sussex host Lancashire in this week's second T20 Blast quarter-final at the County Ground in Hove, where runs flowed freely during the Sharks' South Group campaign.

Sussex's Australian opener Daniel Hughes topped the group-stage runscoring chart, making 81 against Essex and 96 not out against Middlesex in his last two home matches.

The hosts also have a formidable pace attack including England's Jofra Archer and Tymal Mills, but defending Hove's short boundaries will not be easy against Lancashire.

The Lightning won Blast quarter-finals against Sussex at Hove in 2011 and 2020 and, despite Jos Buttler's withdrawal due to a calf injury, they are favourites to progress to Finals Day.

Buttler's England T20 teammates Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone pose major threats to Sussex and Livingstone should be backed to hit the most sixes in the match.

His two North Group appearances this summer yielded six maximums and he hit two sixes in 11 balls during the 2020 Blast victory over Sussex.

Livingstone's most recent innings was a quickfire 55 for Birmingham Phoenix against Southern Brave in The Hundred Eliminator.

His four sixes at The Oval included one apiece off Sussex quicks Archer and Mills and, with Buttler sidelined, he could bat as high as number three for Lancashire.

Brendon McCullum was appointed England's head coach in all formats on Tuesday as the New Zealander succeeded Matthew Mott as white-ball coach.

Alongside Test match captain Ben Stokes, McCullum has overseen a revival in England's red-ball fortunes since taking on the role in 2022 and he is 11-2 to help England regain the T20 World Cup title they relinquished in the Caribbean this summer in 2026.

McCullum's immediate focus will be on completing a perfect Test summer campaign, with England 2-7 to complete a 3-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka at The Oval starting on Friday.
