Surrey vs Durham prediction

Surrey have been the dominant force in domestic cricket in recent years and they showed that once again when topping the South section of the T20 Blast group stage.

No team lost fewer games than their three defeats from 14 matches and the reward for that performance is a quarter-final against Durham, who sneaked through in fourth-place of the North Group.

Surrey used a whopping 25 players through the group stage, demonstrating the depth of their squad, although only two players played more than ten games.

By contrast Durham had six players who played all 14 matches and this clash will be an interesting battle between a squad of stars and a much more settled team of underdogs.

One of Durham’s key men has been bowler Nathan Sowter and he is fancied to be his team’s top wicket-taker.

The spinner took 19 wickets in the group stage at an average of 15.05 and with a measly economy of 6.35 runs per over.

That is the best economy of any bowler with more than 20 overs in this year’s tournament and that is the key to his success.

He also played for the Oval Invincibles in this year’s The Hundred, so will have an experience and insight into many of Surrey’s batters who also featured for that side.
