Pakistan vs England prediction

England beat Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test in Multan, despite conceding 556 in the first innings, and they look primed to go 2-0 up in the three-match series this week.

The tourists claimed a hugely impressive 3-0 series victory on flat pitches in Pakistan in December 2022 and followed a similar blueprint in last week's record-breaking win.

Harry Brook and Joe Root's stand of 454 was the highest partnership in England's Test history and their bowlers took advantage of Pakistan's physical and mental fatigue to dismiss their hosts for 220 second time around.

Reports suggest the same Multan pitch will be used for the second Test, reducing the chances of a draw, and Pakistan have dropped star batsman Babar Azam and key fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah for the rest of the series.

That decision was taken by the board, rather than coach Jason Gillespie and captain Shan Masood, and England, whose captain Ben Stokes is likely to be available, can exploit any disunity in the home camp.

Paceman Brydon Carse impressed on his Test debut and spinner Jack Leach took seven wickets on his return to action while Brook and Root were not the only England batsmen to cash in.

Ben Duckett (84) and Zak Crawley (78) laid the foundation for the total of 823-7 declared and opener Crawley, who racked up 267 against Pakistan at the Rose Bowl in 2020 and 122 off 111 balls in the first Test of the 2022 series, is a big price to top-score in the first innings.
