Northamptonshire vs Somerset prediction

Northamptonshire finished their T20 Blast North Group campaign strongly, winning four of their last five matches to secure a home quarter-final against defending champions Somerset.

Those four victories all came against teams who also reached the knockout stages as the Steelbacks did the double over Durham before beating table-topping Birmingham Bears and Lancashire.

Northants will be missing vastly experienced all-rounders Ravi Bopara and Sikandar Raza for the clash with Somerset, who are just 8-15 to progress to Finals Day.

Those odds look short enough given that the Steelbacks lost only one of their six group matches at the County Ground in Northampton.

However, Somerset are an accomplished T20 side, led by classy captain Lewis Gregory, and their bowlers proved too sharp for Surrey and Essex on Finals Day last summer.

Ben Green took 3-25 in the semi-final against Surrey, dismissing the dangerous Sam Curran and Jamie Smith, and only teammate Matt Henry eclipsed his tally of 30 wickets in the 2023 tournament.

Green was Somerset's leading bowler in this season's group stage, claiming 21 scalps in 13 games including 4-17 against Sussex in his last home appearance.

He picked up another seven wickets in three One-Day Cup outings last month and looks overpriced to be Somerset's top wicket-taker at Wantage Road.
