Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru prediction

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by one run in last season's IPL thriller at Eden Gardens, where the teams meet in the opening fixture of the 2025 campaign.

Rain is forecast to disrupt Saturday's clash and RCB, under new captain Rajat Patidar, look better equipped to handle a reduced-overs contest against the defending champions.

KKR failed to retain skipper Shreyas Iyer, opener Phil Salt and fast bowler Mitchell Starc, all of whom starred in their 2024 triumph.

England batter Salt was snapped up by RCB, joining Patidar, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma and Tim David in an exciting batting unit.

Sunil Narine's destructive hitting in the Powerplay was a feature of KKR's success last season but he was dismissed for ten off 15 balls in the home win over RCB.

Salt, in contrast, smashed 48 from just 14 deliveries in that game and his local knowledge, coupled with the six-hitting prowess of the RCB middle-order, could hurt Kolkata.

The Royal Challengers lost to Rajasthan Royals in last season's playoff Eliminator but they had won their final six league-stage fixtures to secure a top-four finish and, weather permitting, could upset the holders at the start of the new campaign.
