2024-25 Big Bash League prediction

Melbourne Renegades won this season's Women's Big Bash League after finishing bottom of the table in 2023-24 and there could be a similar resurgence from the men's team.

The Renegades won only two of their eight completed matches last season, when Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Sixers in the final, but a new-look squad makes them dangerous outsiders this time.

Captain Will Sutherland is an explosive T20 all-rounder and there should be fireworks at the top of the order with Australia tyro Jake Fraser-McGurk joined by Josh Brown, who smashed 140 off 57 balls in Brisbane's playoff win over Adelaide Strikers last term.

England's Jacob Bethell, another outstanding young T20 talent, and veteran Laurie Evans, who had an excellent 2023-24 campaign for Perth Scorchers, are smart signings.

Fast bowler Fergus O'Neill has had a terrific start to the summer in red-ball cricket and the Renegades' roster also includes superstar leg-spinner Adam Zampa.

Brisbane start their title defence without injured fast bowlers Michael Neser and Spencer Johnson while favourites Perth Scorchers will have to cope without all-rounders Aaron Hardie and Mitchell Marsh for most of the campaign.

Sydney Sixers, who have reached four of the last five Big Bash finals, should go well again with Hampshire captain James Vince and Daniel Hughes, the leading runscorer in this year's T20 Blast, anchoring the batting.
