Liam Davies vs Shabaz Masoud predictions

Liam Davies defends his IBO world super bantamweight title against Shropshire rival Shabaz Masoud in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Both men boast unbeaten professional records – Davies is 16-0 and Masoud 13-0 – but this isn’t the first time the pair have squared off.

Masoud twice beat Davies in the amateur ranks, albeit that should count for very little on Saturday.

Davies has a far more impressive CV as a pro and should be confident following an impressive run of success.

Since June 2022 the 28-year-old has outboxed Marc Leach and Ionut Baluta, stopped Jason Cunningham in the first round, hauled himself off the canvas to stop Vincenzo La Femina and then dismantled the dangerous Erik Robles inside two rounds.

Masoud is a quality operator but is untested at this level and was an uninspiring points victor over Marvin Solano in his last bout.

Solano is not the force of old and that suggests taking on Davies could be a step too far too soon for the Stoke fighter.

Davies has added power to his arsenal of late and has recorded a stoppage victory in each of his last three fights. He can make it four in a row against Masoud.

There is an intriguing rematch in the US in the early hours of Sunday morning as O’Shaquie Foster gets the chance to reclaim the WBC world featherweight title he lost to Robson Conceicao in July.

Conceicao was a controversial split-decision winner of the pair's first fight in some observers' eyes and there wasn’t a great deal between the two on the night.

The Brazilian got his tactics right on that occasion and you can bet that he won’t let the belt go easily after finally getting his hands on a world title.

Foster is a short-priced favourite to exact his revenge but title holder Conceicao looks vastly overpriced at 7-2.
