Jack Catterall vs Regis Prograis Predictions

Jack Catterall is fresh from the biggest victory of his career as he takes on Regis Prograis in Manchester on Saturday.

The Lancashire fighter turned the tables on Josh Taylor earlier this year, after the Scot was handed a controversial split-decision success in 2022, and Catterall will hope to continue his push to a world title.

However, this may not be as simple as the odds suggest despite Prograis being dominated in a near shutout defeat against Devin Haney last time out.

It would be easy to conclude that the 35-year-old Prograis is past his peak, however, Haney is an elite-level operator, vastly superior to anyone Catterall has faced, and that includes former undisputed light-welterweight champion Taylor.

Catterall deserved the verdict in his first clash with Taylor and the 31-year-old was a clear winner in the rematch earlier this year. However, Taylor has hardly done wonders for that form between the bouts and it appears dangerous to overrate that success.

Catterall has wins over Darragh Foley, Ohara Davies and Tyrone McKenna on his card, but those fighters are below the level of a peak Prograis and perhaps even if he is on a slight downgrade.

The Louisiana-born Prograis didn’t dazzle against Haney or Danielito Zorrilla, but the stoppage defeat of Jose Zepeda a little under two years ago is excellent form and the veteran will offer a threat that Catterall is yet to encounter.

Prograis has real power, which has stopped 24 of his previous 31 opponents, and Catterall still has to prove he can handle a shot from a top-level and heavy-hitting fighter.

The market is only moving one way, with El Gato a 1-4 chance to win, but swimming against the tide and punting Prograis looks the value play.
