Revenge would be Fury’s biggest win

Tyson Fury’s professional boxing career began with a first-round stoppage win in Nottingham back in 2008. What followed was a rollercoaster of emotions for all involved, including members of Team Fury and fans of British boxing.

Tyson climbed the ranks, famously punched himself in the face, beat long-serving champion Wladimir Klitschko, and lost his belts due to battles with depression, alcohol, and drug abuse.

He fought back to become a two-time world champion by knocking out The Bronze Bomber Deontay Wilder twice, dethroning one of the division’s biggest punchers in history. Fury then lost his belts to Usyk in a unification bout, suffering the pain of a split-decision defeat.

Where does Fury rank in all-time greats?

Is Tyson Fury one of the best heavyweights ever?

I don’t think there’s a chance of that being remotely true. There’s no denying he has one of the most interesting stories in modern heavyweight boxing, but he has a long way to go to match the most famous names in history.

At present, he isn’t even the best fighter in his division, nevermind the best heavyweight that ever was. Even if Tyson does beat Usyk this month and goes on to win the trilogy with a 2-1 scoreline, he wouldn’t topple the big pins.

Is Tyson Fury better than Muhammad Ali? Let’s not go there.

Is he better than the fighter he’s named after, Iron Mike Tyson? It’s not even close.

How would he handle a prime Lennox Lewis? Not very well, would be my guess.

Could he mix it with the Real Deal Evander Holyfield? My money would be on the American.

What about Sonny Liston? The brawler from Missouri would KO Fury and AJ on the same night and still have enough left in the tank to crush Dubois.

Fury focuses on a place in history

It’s safe to say Tyson Fury won’t go down in history as the best heavyweight. But the towering puncher never claimed to be. He has owned his flaws, worked on his faults, and always been honest about his goals.

If he can find a way to defeat Usyk, it will be one of the best moments in British boxing history and a real upset for the betting odds.
