The MLB baseball playoffs start on Friday, with an expanded Wild-Card round involving eight teams playing best-of-three, who will fight it out for a chance to progress to the Division Series, where the top two seeded teams await.

On the National League side one of those will be the LA Dodgers who, once again, have comfortably looked the best team in baseball.

The Boys in Blue have won 111 games, and their run differential is over 90 runs better than the next best. They know exactly what they are doing at this stage of the season, having reached three Fall Classics in the last five years, winning one.

They have four starting pitchers with regular-season Earned Run Averages below 3, which is perfect for postseason baseball where teams often use a rotation of three or four starters.

The bullpen has a very small combined ERA of 2.87, while Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Trea Turner are all very dangerous with the bat, and are all in MLB’s top 12 for Wins Above Replacement player leaderboard.

The Dodgers will sit out the Wild-Card round and will play the winners of the Padres and the Mets, and look a solid bet to go all the way.

RPSport advised the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers to win their respective leagues at the start of the season and, although the Blue Jays have made it to the playoffs, they can't be considered front-runners.

They took a while to get going this season, but started to pick up nicely towards the Autumn. The Blue Jays were 14.5 games back of the Yankees going into the All-Star break, but closed the gap to seven by the end of the season and are certainly hitting form at the right time.
