The absence of the drug-banned Russian team from Amsterdam’s European Championships this week has opened up opportunities for medals for many athletes, especially in a couple of events which get going today.
Great Britain’s women’s 4x400 metres relay squad appear strong. Headed by the former Olympic and world champion Christine Ohuruogu, and including the in-form Anyika Onuora, they would normally be game contenders for a minor medal in a race dominated by the eastern Europeans.
