Back Bowie for a chance to be dancing in the street again
Gong Lijiao has golden opportunity to be new shot put heroine
Day five
BBC2 and Eurosport 1, 6.30pm Tuesday
Just two events kick off on day five of the London world championships, but the women's 200m and shot put both provide excellent betting opportunities.
Holland's flying machine and defending champion Dafne Schippers makes the market in the absence of Rio gold medallist Elaine Thompson, who decided to focus on the 100m. She is a best-priced 7-4 but does not appeal at those odds given her form this season.
It's not that Schippers has been bad, but she has been made to work hard all season and has looked a little flat after a sensational 2015 and 2016.
New 100m world champion Tori Bowie also holds the world-leading time this year at 200m while Marie-Jose Ta Lou was also brilliant in the 100m and wold arguably have won gold had she dipped as well as Bowie.
Then there is Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who is a sensational talent but is trying to pull off the 200-400 double - something never before achieved by a woman at the world championships.
Miller-Uibo's task is complicated by the two events overlapping and of the 100m athletes Bowie was finishing fastest and has the pedigree at 200m.
She is a seasoned championship performer with silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m from Rio and she is clearly in brilliant form. Her price has been trimmed since the start of the week but she is still the most likely winner.
The absence of the 2015 shot put champion Christina Schwanitz and Valerie Adams, winner of the previous four titles, mean we will have a new name on the honour roll.
America's Olympic champion Michelle Carter is the favourite, but like Schippers she has been out of form. She threw a season's best of 19.34m at the US championships, which was only good enough for third, while China's Gong Lijiao, with two silvers and two bronzes from an exceptional era, has a golden opportunity to finally get a win.
Her season's best of more than 20m gives her a comfortable margin on the field and she has won three legs of the Diamond League. At 2-1 she is the value.
