Took keen hold, midfield, headway 3 out, soon went fourth, ridden after 2 out, kept on until no extra from last (jockey said gelding wears a hood and has a history of being keen, so his instructions were to get gelding settled and ensure he was finding the line at the end of the race, jockey added that gelding ran too freely through the first few hurdles and never entirely relaxed throughout; however he jumped relatively well until home straight and was able to improve his mid-race position to be racing the leaders rounding the home bend; jockey added gelding guessed the third-last hurdle and was untidy, causing gelding to land flat losing ground and momentum in the process; jockey added gelding had been outpaced and failed to respond to his firm hands-and-heels urgings on approach to second-last, prompting him to keep a good hold of horse's head in order to see a better stride at the final two hurdles; however gelding reached for second-last hurdle, before getting in tight to last hurdle and thereafter failed to finish his race off when held on the run-in, which was noted; vet said a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities) (op 4/1 tchd 7/2)
