Tracked leaders, who went clear 2nd, took closer order 5th, led after 4 out, shaken up and edged left flat, stayed on well, comfortably (op 6/4 tchd 7/4)
Held up, stayed on to go 3rd towards finish, never near to challenge (stewards inquired into running and riding; they also received a report from the Veterinary Officer who confirmed that a post-race examination during routine testing revealed the gelding had lost its left fore shoe and, upon first examination, was 2/5th's lame on its right hind, and after a second examination was 3/5th's lame on its right hind; jockey said his instructions were to jump off handy and get the gelding travelling; however, having obtained a prominent early position, he was unable to maintain this due to the strong gallop and gradually lost ground when outpaced on the final circuit to the point that he considered pulling the gelding up after the third last fence; he added that at no stage did he have any concerns that the gelding felt lame or moved poorly; trainer's rep confirmed these instructions and was satisfied with the ride considering the gelding was outpaced at the 2m trip which appeared inadequate and he would be recommending that the gelding be stepped up in trip to 2 1/2m) (op 8/1 tchd 9/2)
Led until after 1st, chased leader, went upsides 6th until ridden approaching 4 out, soon weakened (trainer could offer no explanation for the performance) (op 4/1)
