Slowly away, in rear, headway over 1f out, nudged out inside final furlong, eyecatcher (inquiry into running and riding of gelding which was restrained leaving stalls, settled at rear of the field where it travelled strongly before appearing to be very tenderly handled in home straight until final strides; vet performed two post-race examinations of gelding and had nothing to report; jockey said his instructions were to drop gelding out early to help ensure gelding settled as he has been very keen on gallops at home and to hunt away and keep it simple; he explained that he was satisfied with his early pitch down inner at rear of field and gelding had switched off with cover chasing an even pace; he indicated that approaching home turn he had been squeezing gelding along with his legs and when leaders fanned very wide on straightening he obtained clear running; from this point he considered that gelding had every opportunity to obtain best possible placing as gelding was giving maximum effort under hands and heels riding and he did not feel it prudent to resort to whip at any point; trainer's rep confirmed instructions and that ride had accorded with them through first half of race; however trainer himself expressed dissatisfaction with ride given by jockey, explaining that he believed gelding could and should have been ridden more vigorously in home straight) (op 22/1)
Led, hung right from over 1f out, headed 1f out, hampered and weakened inside final furlong (jockey said gelding hung right-handed in home straight) (op 50/1 tchd 100/1)
