Bumped start, in touch with leaders, smooth headway from 2f out, edged left but led over 1f out, ran on well inside final furlong, comfortably (op 2/5)
Slowly away, in rear, going okay 2f out, nudged along and headway from over 1f out, never near to challenge, eyecatcher (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to make sure he got gelding to relax with cover and finish his race off to obtain best possible placing; he explained that he was aware gelding had a history of being very keen in his bumper runs and for this reason he was happy to allow gelding to find his feet early and was therefore reluctant to bustle him along after being slowly away; he added that gelding ran freely through the first 2f despite the pace being solid, before eventually settling halfway down back straight and explained that he had relinquished his position to the inside of Mark The Sparks, which was running very keenly after entering the back straight for fear of lighting his mount up or being contacted in any way; he further added that approximately 3 1/2f out, he briefly became short of room to the inside of Rocklyn, and again steadied his mount to ensure he kept gelding balanced; in explaining his riding during final 3f, he stated he felt gelding had been outpaced when tempo increased and is a big horse, which he considered would benefit from being held onto and helped around the tight bends until straightening up, whereupon he rode gelding out hands and heels to the line and stayed on through beaten horses after leaders had got first run on him; trainer confirmed instructions and gave a detailed account of horse's previous runs, racing manners and stalls history, before indicating that ride had accorded with his instructions; vet reported gelding had lost his right-fore shoe)
