Took keen hold, close up, ridden and chased winner over 1f out, edged left inside final furlong, no impression inside final 110yds, lost second towards finish (op 9/1 tchd 13/2)
Held up in rear, pushed along over 2f out, kept on inside final furlong, never near to challenge (An enquiry was held into the running and riding of the gelding, which after breaking on terms with the field, was restrained and allowed to drift back to settle at the rear of the field, before being asked for an effort approximately 2 1/2f out, whereupon it stayed on and made ground under considerate handling in the home straight to finish 8th of 11 runners, beaten by 8 1/4l; rider stated his instructions were to jump out from the wide draw in stall 8 and find cover to give gelding a chance to find his feet and travel; jockey said that after receiving slight pressure from both sides upon leaving the stalls, he quickly formed the view that to avoid being trapped deep going into the first bend, he steadied his mount to the rear of the field, finding a position closer to the rail to be his best option; he added the tempo of the race didn't play to the geldings strengths and consequently he was trying to mount a challenge from an unpromising position after leaving the back straight; he further added that the gelding was initially tapped for toe when the pace increased passing the 3f marker, before gradually being able to improve his position down the home straight, until being checked in his run near the 1/2f marker by a weakening rival, which had lugged quickly right-handed into his path; jockey further indicated that the gelding may benefit from being stepped back up in trip and could also be seen to better effect by settling more prominently when receiving a more favourable stall) (tchd 9/1)
