Slowly into stride, took keen hold, held up in rear, shaken up over 1f out, not clear run and ran on inside final furlong, not reach leaders (stewards inquired into running and riding; jockey said his instructions were to drop the gelding out early from his wide draw, get the gelding to relax and avoid allowing him to see too much daylight; he added that after being slowly away by design and folding across behind runners early, in order to best comply with his instructions, gelding had then taken a fierce hold and was unsuited when the pace steadied going round the first bend; he added that down the back straight several runners in front of him were climbing over the back of each other due to the slow pace and near the 4f pole, he had committed to ride for luck and secure an economical trip through along the inside rail as opposed to making a wide run around the field when the pace would increase at some point; he further added that for some distance inside the 3f pole he had to wait for a rival to drop off in order to fully avail himself of clear running and shift off the back of another rival, which would enable him to follow another rival into the race, but by this time the gelding was poorly positioned to mount its finishing challenge; from this point gelding had stayed on particularly well, despite the race not being run to suit and having met interference inside the final furlong, to, in his opinion, obtain the best possible placing) (op 14/1)
Pulled hard, held up in rear, headway over 5f out, ridden over 1f out, beaten when hampered and eased final 110yds (jockey said gelding ran too freely)
