Slowly into stride, held up, shaken up over 1f out, ran on to go 3rd well inside final furlong, never near to challenge (jockey said regarding running and riding that his instructions were to drop the gelding in, get him settled and ride the race from there. However, the gelding had not only bolted to post with him but also taken a very keen hold throughout the race, a fact he reported at Scales. He added that he was unsuited by the slow pace, and given the fact that the gelding had expended so much energy in the early and middle stages of the race he was mindful not to commence his run too soon. He further added that he wanted to follow another runner into the race leaving the back straight but was not afforded this opportunity and had to wait until approaching the home turn before asking his mount to quicken, from which point it made good headway and found the line strongly.)
