| Held up in rear, headway on inner over 2f out, switched right to wide outside and ridden to chase leaders over 1f out, kept on well final furlong (an enquiry was held into the running and riding of the gelding, which was considerately handled in second last place, before being asked for its effort approximately 2 1/2 furlongs out, to finish third beaten by 3 3/4 lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and stated that his instructions were to sit in behind the runners, get the gelding settled and to make his effort approaching 2 1/2 furlongs out, this being the gelding's first try at 1mile 2 furlongs. He added that he was able to carry out his instructions, but was caught momentarily behind runners 4 furlongs out and didn't want to manoeuvre his mount to the outside and start racing too soon, being conscious that the gelding may not stay the trip.
