Held up in last, not fluent 1st, soon became detached, some headway 8th, struggling 3 out, well held from 2 out, went modest third towards finish, never on terms (stewards inquired into running and riding; vet reported that a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities; rider stated his instructions were to ride the mare as he found her and to get her travelling and jumping early; he explained that the mare was having her first run over fences was very novicey at the first fence and jumped slowly thereafter and he felt he was always on the back foot due to the strong pace being set by the early leaders and his main priority was to keep his horse in rhythm and, in his view, it would be detrimental to chase the strong pace; he added that he had asked for an effort from rounding the final bend and mare stayed on at one pace to obtain, in his opinion, the best possible placing; his explanation was noted) (op 6/1 and tchd 13/2)
Led, tracked winner when headed 7th, mistake 9th, ridden home turn, soon lost second, weakened after 2 out, lost third towards finish (op 8/1 tchd 13/2)
