Held up in rear, stayed on from 3 out, nearest finish (enquiry was held into the running and riding of gelding, jockey said his instructions were to drop the gelding in, get him to switch off and finish his race, having raced keenly last time. he further stated that he had made headway half-way down the back straight on the final circuit but did not want to ask the gelding for an effort too soon on the heavy ground, and added that he had given the gelding a hands and heels ride in the home straight where he stayed on past tired horses. the trainer stated that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given. their explanations were noted.)
