Raced wide, towards rear, steady headway going easily 3f out, ridden up the centre and led 1f out, joined final 110yds, edged right and kept on well towards finish, gamely (op 10/1)
Took keen hold, towards rear, headway going easily when switched right and up the centre over 1f out, ridden to challenge final 110yds, just held (following stewards enquiry into running and riding, jockey said his instructions were to take his time and not get to the front too soon, as he had been advised the gelding is prone to idle in front; he added that he had got gelding into a good position on the rail, and the gelding was nice and relaxed; he said the gelding was travelling well and he had a lead going down into the bend, at which point the gaps started to open up; he said when switching to the outside of the winner at the furlong marker to continue his run, he had had to steady off the winner's heels but that the gelding, who had made up a length on the winner, under a hands and heels ride, had failed to make up any significant ground under a strong late drive to the line; this explanation was noted) (op 8/1)
