Slowly away, raced in last, soon detached, still plenty to do when ridden 2f out, ran on well inside final furlong, nearest finish (an enquiry was held into the running and riding; the jockey and the trainer's rep were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the vet reported an initial post-race examination revealed the gelding to be uncomfortable behind with an abnormal gait and a further examination, 30 minutes later, revealed the gelding to be lame on its right hind; the rider stated his instructions were to jump well and to be patient on the gelding and to come with one effort in the straight, he added that he was slowly away, a fact which he had reported to scales, meaning that he was detached from the field in the early stages before making contact with the back of the field down the back straight and then asking for an effort 1 1/2f out, he continued that he felt that the geding was ungenuine, causing the gelding to lug left under pressure and that the gelding's effort flattened out, the trainer's rep confirmed that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given, adding that the gelding had a history of being slowly away and that they had done a lot of home schooling to try and ensure that the gelding jumped better. Their explanations were noted.) (op 20/1)
Disputed lead until led clearly after 2f, headed under 3f out, soon pushed along, weakened 1f out (jockey said filly hung right-handed throughout) (op 14/1)
