Led and disputed until clear advantage from 3 out, pushed along approaching next and headed into straight, no chance with easy winner, strongly pressed for 2nd from last, kept on well under pressure (op 10-1 tchd 8-1)
Held up, went moderate 3rd before 2 out, pushed along approaching last and kept on towards finish without ever threatening easy winner, just held for 2nd (trainer said, regarding running and riding, that he did not give his rider detailed instructions as jockey knew the horse well; he said it was re-appearing after an absence from the track since last March but had done plenty of work and his weight was identical to his weight at Cheltenham last year; he added that the weather conditions in the UK were a hindrance to its preparation of gelding for today's race; he added that gelding is better on better ground; jockey said he was not tied into specific instructions but intended to maintain a position tracking Hurricane Fly; from before 2nd last he felt he did not have horse to challenge winner but hoped to be able to obtain second place; despite riding out gelding and squeezing it all the way up straight he was unable to get by the 2nd horse; he also added that gelding leaned left towards running rail up straight due to tiredness) (op 5-1)
