Took keen hold, held up in rear, headway after 3 out, pushed along 2 out, soon hung left, carried right approaching last where 5 lengths fifth, shaken up and went third run-in, stayed on (jockey said, regarding running and riding, he was instructed to settle the inexperienced gelding quietly; however, the moderate pace didn't help him switch off, and he hung badly left throughout; despite this, he managed to improve his position approaching the leaders. Under pressure, the gelding stayed on one rein, hanging persistently left; near the final hurdle, Peso, placed fourth, drifted into his line, so he eased up to avoid contact. Accepting third place as the best possible outcome, he refrained from pushing hard in the final stretch, finishing six lengths behind second; he felt the gelding would benefit from a step up in trip, a more truely run race and a continuous running rail; vet reported the gelding to be post-race normal, other than exhibiting a sore mouth with splits evident in both corners) (op 6/4 tchd 5/4 and 7/4)
