Took keen hold, held up in rear, headway after 3 out, pushed along 2 out, soon hung left, carried right approaching last where 5 lengths fifth, shaken up and went third run-in, stayed on (inquiry into running and riding; jockey said he was nstructed to settle the inexperienced gelding quietly; however, the moderate pace didn't help him switch off, and he hung badly left throughout; despite this, he managed to improve his position approaching leaders; under pressure, gelding stayed on one rein, hanging persistently left; near final hurdle, Peso, placed fourth, drifted into his line, so he eased up to avoid contact; accepting third place as best possible outcome, he refrained from pushing hard in final stretch, finishing 6 lengths behind second; he felt gelding would benefit from a step up in trip, a more truely run race and a continuous running rail; vet reported gelding to be post-race normal, other than exhibiting a sore mouth with splits evident in both corners) (op 6/4 tchd 5/4 and 7/4)
