Held up in rear, headway home turn, led just after 3 out, ridden and hung right from 2 out, 3 lengths ahead when jumped right last, stayed on (trainer could offer no explanation for gelding's improved performance) (op 15/2)
Took keen hold, towards rear, mistake 6th, blundered and lost ground 4 out, in touch with leaders and ridden 3 out, beaten 2 out, jumped left last (vet said mare was treated for post-race ataxia and had lost its right-hind shoe) (op 7/1 tchd 5/1)
In rear, not fluent 1st, soon became detached, nudged along before 3 out, shaken up and some headway from 2 out, never on terms (jockey said, regarding running and riding, his instructions were to ride gelding patiently and get the gelding to switch off. he explained that it was his intention to keep gelding on the bridle for as long as possible as he only has one run once asked. after making a mistake at the first hurdle becoming detached, the gelding never travelled and made a noise thereafter; all facts he reported at scales. he added that the strong early gallop made it difficult to make up ground so therefore attempted to kid gelding along for the duration of the back straight to keep him interested, believing the field may have come back to him. on this occasion however, the rider reported that the gelding continued to make a noise up the home straight, making little ground up on the field and on pulling up, gelding was very tired. trainer's representative confirmed the instructions and stated that she was satisfied that the ride accorded with those instructions) (op 13/2)
Jumped right, led, headed and pushed along home turn, weakened before 2 out (trainer could offer no explanation for mare's poor performance; post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities) (op 9/2 tchd 7/2)
