ch g Night Of Thunder (IRE) - Akhania (Dalakhani)
Took keen hold, towards rear, hung left and not clear run over 1f out, nudged along and no impression inside final furlong, never near to challenge (inquiry held into the running and riding of gelding which was ridden towards the rear throughout before losing ground from 3f out whilst under restraint to finish seventh of nine runners, beaten by 7l; jockey explained that he had planned to settle gelding in behind the leaders but, as the field went into first bend, gelding got keen, began to hang badly left-handed and effectively became unrideable thereafter, a fact he had reported at scales; he added that from leaving back straight he almost had two hands on right rein but was getting no response as gelding continually fought his corrective efforts; he further added that once in home straight, gelding had dived to the rail inside a weakening rival, against his wishes, which forced him to take a check and switch right-handed; he continued by saying that once he had runners to his inside and was able to take pressure off geldings mouth, gelding did finally straighten up inside final furlong and finished race off well. stewards were satisfied that jockey's evidence was borne out by the film and his explanation was noted) (op 17/2)
